It's about that time... The 23rd Annual Empowerment Congress Summit will be held on Saturday January 17th at the USC Bovard Auditorium in Los Angeles, and you are invited. Attendance is free, click here to register.

The keynote speaker will be Prof. Cornel West, and topics covered during the day will include child welfare, stopping sex trafficking, going green on a budget, and more. Following the workshops, there will be a resource fair. Full list of summit workshops here.

I founded the Empowerment Congress to educate and engage the public, teaching Los Angeles-area residents how best to access and influence government. The Empowerment Congress is a dynamic partnership among neighborhood groups, residents, nonprofit organizations, businesses, religious institutions, and community leaders within the diverse communities of Los Angeles County's Second Supervisorial District. This summit is offered to the community free of charge, so that everybody can benefit from this unique experience and become more effective community activists.

If you can't make the Summit but would like to stay informed about future Empowerment Congress activities and events, you can sign up for email updates at the website here. You can also follow along from home by following the hashtag #ECSummit23 on Twitter.

I hope you can be there. This will be an exceptional event, a chance to hear from and meet leaders in the community and nationally, and work together with neighbors on building a better Los Angeles.
