I was proud to endorse her for California State Controller in 2014, and am proud to endorse her for her re-election in the general on November 6th.
Betty Yee has done a fine job as State Controller. The LA Times agrees – in their endorsement they stated that “she has performed her official duties well”, and they enthusiastically endorse her for re-election.
Betty Yee grew up in San Francisco, raised by Chinese immigrant parents who had founded and operated a laundry and dry cleaning business in San Francisco for 30 years. She learned English as a child outside of the home, and often worked at her parents’ business serving as translator and also assisting in financial transactions.
Betty began her public service career as a county public health commissioner. She served as a Senate Fellow with the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, and held senior staff positions on several fiscal and policy committees in both houses of the California State Legislature. Betty then served as the Chief Deputy Director for Budget with the California Department of Finance. She was first elected to the State Board of Equalization in 2006, and her efforts (along with Fiona Ma) helped clean up that board.
Betty Yee’s handling of the State Controller’s office since her election in 2014, her deep knowledge of financial and budget issues and the legislative process, and her experience leading our state are why I support Betty Yee for re-election as California’s State Controller.
