Proud to support California Board of Equalization Chair Fiona Ma for California State Treasurer in the general election.
Fiona Ma is a Certified Public Tax Accountant and currently serves on the California State Board of Equalization. Her experience is exactly what the state of California needs. Her opponent, however, wants to gut the public pension system, and his dangerous ideas would hurt working California families.
Fiona began her career as an accountant for Ernst and Young, but left to start her own accounting practice. Her advocacy work helped lead to more socially responsible contracting for minorities and women in San Francisco. After her election to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, she used her small business experience to lead the effort to create the city's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program to enable other small businesses to more easily compete for public works contracts. She then served in the State Assembly, where I had the opportunity to get to know her as I served in the State Senate.
As the LA Times put it in their endorsement, “Ma is clear-eyed about the state’s financial condition and its investment needs.”
California needs trusted leaders to safely manage our financial future. Fiona Ma has both the financial expertise and public service experience to serve the people of California well, which is why I endorse Fiona Ma for California State Treasurer in the general election.
