In the face of the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has been on a mission to keep hard working men and women in the Second District on the job, and earning living wages to support their families.

Because of Supervisor Ridley-Thomas’ bold efforts to fight for jobs in our severely slumping economy, thousands of workers that would have faced layoffs have seen their jobs preserved and retained, and they continue to earn paychecks today.

Supervisor Ridley-Thomas’ bold economic development initiatives have created tens of thousands of new jobs.

In 2011, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) estimated that Ridley-Thomas-led efforts in the Second District have had a combined spending impact of $5.62 billion, leading the way in job-producing activity countywide.

The LAEDC estimates that a robust 71,640 jobs have been created by Supervisor Ridley-Thomas-sponsored economic development projects in the Second District since November 2008.

Since November 2008, Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has helped create 33,380 jobs on construction projects that have undertaken and completed or are currently underway in the Second District.

Supervisor Ridley-Thomas created an additional 16,0120 jobs that are indirectly related to the economic development projects he has overseen in his district.

Another 22,250 jobs were created as a result of the economic activity Supervisor Ridley-Thomas generated through development projects has spearheaded since November 2008.

For the past several years, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has been highly successful in putting the people of the Second District to work… and keeping Second District residents on the job!
