Ted Lieu is a distinguished State Senator, and running for Henry Waxman's seat in the 33rd Congressional District this fall. I am proud to endorse Ted Lieu's campaign for Congress today.
Ted has an inspirational story. Born in Taiwan, his parents immigrated to Cleveland when he was only 3 years old. Ted grew up in poverty with his family speaking limited English, but worked his way into Stanford for undergraduate studies and Georgetown for law school.
Ted joined the Air Force and served on active duty for four years, which brought him to southern California for the first time. He is still in the Air Force reserves, where he is a Lieutenant Colonel. I thank him for his service to our country.
Our time overlapped briefly in the Legislature, where I first had the chance to get to know him. I found Ted to be a thoughtful legislator, and a true advocate for the greater Los Angeles community.
I am especially impressed with Ted's legislative work to stop child sex trafficking. In April I held a rally with Mayor Eric Garcetti to bring more awareness to the hidden suffering of our children. Ted Lieu stepped forward to author SB1388 to do something about it.
I feel confident he will bring his legal background and unique personal experience to Washington to serve us well. That's why I support Ted Lieu's election to Congress.
